I really recommend you to read this book. This book was about a boy who became a violinist but it was a different story from any other story including violins. As I read this book for the first time, I didn’t realize the reason why the author wrote the story like this, something sad and heartbreaking. However I tried to read his book as much as possible I felt I could fine the answer. He tells us how peaceful world important is and how did people touched with the music during the World War Two. I was surprised that Jewish people had to play music because of their survival. I don’t think music is a way of surviving so I couldn’t imagine of that circumstance but I noticed that the life during war was so awful that many people were forced to play music even if they didn’t want to play for hateful people who kept them and kill them. It’s a good opportunity to learn what a peaceful world is. Please try to read this book.

戦時中のオーケストラの話。 英語科の2人の先生からおすすめしていただいた本です。初めは物語の内容を掴むことが難しかったけれど途中で具体的な話になって、内容を掴むことができました！ 寂しい過去、苦いバイオリンの記憶… 複雑な感情が絡み合う、でも心温まる良いお話しでした。 ぜひ読んでみてください！！ 

世界的なバイオリニスト、Paoloにインタビューすることになった「私」は同僚から「モーツアルトに関する質問をするな」と釘を刺された。なぜモーツアルトがNGなのか、読み進めるうちにそこに隠されたつらく苦しい秘密が明らかになる。悲しい話ながら、最後には一筋の光が見える良作。

有名なバイオリニストに突然インタビューをすることになった駆け出しのジャーナリスト。上司から、”Don’t ask him the Mozart question.” と言われて取材に出かけます。そこで語られる話とは……。挿し絵も素敵です。

演奏家という1番音楽を愛しているであろう人に、人をガス室に送り込むために音楽を演奏させるというこの上なく残酷な、そんな行為が実際に行われていたんだということにまずショックを受けた。そして、次のコンサートでモーツァルトを弾くということに込められた、パオロの思いに感動した。

Michael Morpurgo の作品。Michael Foreman の挿絵が美しい。 悲しく、苦しく、辛い経験の物語だが、幸せの部分もある。導入部はちょっとテレビドラマ的。 難しい単語もあるが、表紙の絵から歴史的背景を想像できれば、中学3年生以上なら読めると思う。 

「ハンナのかばん」にも通ずる話です。悲しい物語でもありますが、語り手に引き込まれるお話でとてもおすすめです。
